‘The Drummer Queen’ MDQ is the boss lady of HipHop from Kenya. With ‘Turn on the light’ she sheds light on some of Africa’s finest freestyle talents: M.I from Nigeria and Khaligraph Jones alias Baba Yao from Kayole in Nairobi’s Eastlands. Back in 2009 he already had the chance to present his skills to a pan-african audience when he won Channel O’s ‘Emcee Africa’ competition, at the age of only 19.

Muthoni the Drummer Queen is currently more looking into Europe where she has built close ties with global bass producers GR! & Hook from Switzerland. From this perspective she rediscovers local sounds and creates a new identity of a Nairobiesque sound that targets the audience of a growing African middle class. On ‘Nai Ni Ya Who?’ she had the chance to collaborate with Wyclef Jean.
